MISSION
Stop The Wait RI is a 501(c)(4) organization whose mission is to Amplify parent voices, build community power, and successfully advocate for the conditions that will create the best educational landscape for our children.
Last year The Rhode Island General Assembly
is considering legislation to limit school choice options parents desperately need.
Too many children are trapped in broken schools and thousands of kids are stuck on waiting lists trying to get into high-quality charter schools. Now is not the time to put a moratorium on charter schools or kids' dreams. They can't wait any longer for us to fix Rhode Island's broken education system.
STOPPING THE WAIT…

OUR TRADITIONAL PUBLIC SCHOOLS ARE FAILING.
Our children are missing opportunities to get on a path to a better life. Public charter schools offer parents a choice to help their children have access to the high-quality education they deserve. But, in 2021 a bill has been fast-tracked in the General Assembly to prevent any public charter school from expanding -- thus leaving children behind and taking away school choice from the very people who have been on waiting lists. Parents are desperate for their children to have a chance by attending these high-quality schools.
We created Stop The Wait RI to lead a grassroots advocacy campaign to educate the public about why these public charter schools are so important and to help defeat this bill.

THE PROBLEM.
In May 2019, the Johns Hopkins Institute for Education Policy led a review of the Providence Public School District (PPSD).
"We did so at the invitation of the Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) Commissioner, Ms. Angélica Infante-Green, with the support of Governor Gina Raimondo and Mayor Jorge Elorza. The Partnership for Rhode Island funded the review," wrote Johns Hopkins.
What the report found is both shocking and sad.
