Canvass: Know Before You Go
Your Essential Canvassing Toolkit
We’re Excited, Are You?!
If you’ve already volunteered with Stop The Wait RI this election season, you are familiar with this effort and why it fires us up! If not, take a quick read about the upcoming election here to see why the upcoming weeks are so vital for our children, Providence residents, and education.
Our Purpose
Volunteers will be canvassing four districts in Providence to raise awareness about the importance of better school choice, encourage residents to take action, and share how they can support our efforts to Stop The Wait. We’ll provide you with all the training and resources you need to have impactful conversations.
Your Participation
Why does your participation matter so much?
Every conversation counts! By joining us, you’ll help amplify our message and connect with community members who want to see change. Together, we can mobilize our network and push for the action needed to Stop The Wait.
What to Know to Get Prepared
How can you prepare?
Arrive on Time
Once volunteers have arrived to the office, been setup and briefed, we will then assign each pair a turf and deploy everyone.
Wear Appropriate Attire
Dress for the weather and comfort. Choose comfortable walking shoes (you’ll be on your feet), lightweight clothing for warmer weather, or layers and a jacket if it’s cooler.
Don’t forget a hat, sunglasses, or sunscreen for sunny days, and bring rain gear like an umbrella or raincoat if needed.
If you have STWRI attire, this is the time to rock it!
What to Bring:
Smartphone (you will need this for the Organizer App.)
Portable charger (if needed)
Water and snacks (we will provide some of this as well)
Your best attitude!
Skip (Some) of the Line
Download the Organizer App. to your phone ahead of time!
Volunteers will be using the Organizer Mobile App. to track their canvassing progress throughout the day. You can help us prepare ahead of time by following the below instructions (one for iPhones and one for Androids) and downloading the App. to your respective phone before arriving to the office.
What exactly will you be doing?
Knocking on Doors
You’ll be visiting houses within your assigned area and knocking on doors. These could be single-family or multi-family homes, apartment buildings, or apartment complexes.
Having Informed Conversations
We will be providing you with all the information and training you need before heading out to your turf, so do not fret!
Be ready to listen and answer any questions residents may have. If you don’t know the answer, offer to follow up later or direct them to the right resources.
Distributing Information
Each pair of volunteers will have printed materials to leave with the voter and/or at the home.
Collecting Information
You’ll be collecting vital information in the Organizer App. based on your conversations.
